This presentation addresses a specific life skill that a person can use to confront someone who they are very concerned about in a caring, concerned and non-judgemental way.  A practice session for the participants is included in this presentation.

This presentation initially focuses on the sad facts/statistics regarding teen suicide.  It also addresses the sign/symptoms of  teen suicide.   In addition, Tom addresses how one can respond in a caring, non-judgmental way to confront someone who may be severely depressed.

HOW WELL ARE YOU? - Looking at your total wellness and beginning to live more “well”.

This presentation addresses the difference between achieving total wellness vs being physically healthy.  A personal responsibility is discussed within the 7 dimensions of wellness.  Reducing risk factors is also addressed  that would dramatically improves ones “quality” of life.

The presentation provides the necessary knowledge and specific and relevant strategies to assist pre-teens as they begin to make those choices and develop relationships.

This session addresses the latest brain and body research from the effects of alcohol/drug use/abuse.  This relevant and eye-opening research from John Underwood and the American Athletic Institute (Life of an Athlete) will be shared in a way that allows the student and or athlete to learn from the decision they made, accept the consequences rendered to them and move forward! Parents, guardians immediately feel safe, non-threatened and non-embarrassed.  The hour presentation is about learning from their "mistake", and MOVING FORWARD! Suggestions for the student or athlete AND their parents conclude the presentation.

This presentation allows the participants to really begin to think about the "process" of aging at any age, intentionally doing things to aid in that process and creating achievable goals by writing bucket lists so they can live a life without regrets!  The main theme is not to be the best IN the world but the best FOR the world!  It allows the participants to look at short and long term goals, identify steps to attain and then write those goals while identifying behaviors that may prevent one from reaching those goals.  Tom will also discuss the importance of personal, family, spousal, friend and/or grandchild buckets lists as ways to really LIVE and "age well" without regrets!

Teaching While Addressing your Students' Mental Health

Teaching is difficult. We all have a content specialty and are required to meet more and more standards and mandates. But, if we neglect to address our students mental health in the process through relationships, etc. we simply won't teach them effectively. During this in service we will identify the many specific mental health issues while I share some easily implementable strategies to address those issues. I will also share what students need to have in order for them to develop resiliency allowing for their overall total wellness in all 8 dimensions of their lives.
